Meet
Marilyn Joyce
RN, BSN, CDVC, certified domestic violence
counselor, author, columnist, media personality,
talk show host, speaker. As a retired, disabled
Veteran, Marilyn Joyce is no ’soft touch’ on the
issues. She’s taking the discussion of domestic
violence, personal crisis, and recovery strategies
to totally new levels. |

Marilyn’s
media adventures started quite accidentally during
Desert Storm while serving as an Army nurse in
Honolulu, Hawaii where she took her 10 & 11 year old
sons with her to do volunteer work as a family for a
local television station (KWHE). One day, the owner
of the station asked her to sit in on a new women’s
talk show to do a segment to support and encourage
the families and friends of deployed members of the
13 military bases on the island (Oahu). She was
given the liberty to write her own script, soon
became a co-host of the show and the rest - as they
say - is history.

Marilyn on The 700 Club TV broadcast talking about domestic violence and her
book,
‘If He Doesn’t Deliver, When Women Have No Where to Turn’
Her first opportunity to do live talk radio came in 2001, when the late
James Brown, Godfather of Soul was the owner of
WAAW 94.7FM radio based in Aiken, South Carolina (which broadcasted from Broad
Street in Augusta, Georgia). The weekly show, ’Chit Chat’ was a precursor of
things to come. No stranger to engaging the public, major doors opened for
Marilyn to speak about the issue of abuse, domestic violence and her personal
empowerment concepts for re-claiming your life via radio, television,
correctional institutions, conferences and seminars in 1991, after the release
of her first book about domestic violence in the religious community.
‘If He Doesn’t Deliver‘ is the story of her
own escape, survival and triumph over domestic violence, homelessness, divorce
and disability.
Marilyn has been a radio talk show host for 6 years and writes a column for
The Spiritual Voice newspaper. She is a member of the National
Association of Forensic Counselors, The American Nurses Association, The
National Association of Black Journalists, The Women's Success Institute, The
Richmond County Juvenile Court Review Panel and the Disabled Veteran's
Association.

Marilyn on the set
with Tom Campbell of WRDW CBS Midday News.
Marilyn received her BSN from M.H. Baylor University and retired (medically)
from the US Army Nurse Corp in 1996. She is a Certified Domestic Violence
Counselor, and serves as the Chief Executive of Empowerment Concepts, Inc. For 3
years she did a monthly segment (Destiny Steps to Your Success) on WRDW, CBS
Midday News (Augusta, GA), and has authored 5 books.
